Gratefully, my mom has taught me from a young age the importance of taking care of your skin. Early in middle school, I established a simple skincare routine of a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. For most of my teenage years, I have had fair skin with minimal breakouts here and there. Up until 2020 is where my skin did a drastic change. Specifically, I was breaking out constantly around my checks and chin and left a lot of PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). I had no idea what was causing it since there were no physical or mental changes. Finally, I found the problem’s root: the face masks. The constant wearing of medical and cotton masks was highly irritating to my skin; I switched to silk masks which helped my skin a lot better. Thankfully in the past two years, I found a whole skincare routine that has worked wonders for my skin.

Between 2020-2021, I was so insecure about myself because of my skin that I distanced myself from people, thinking that is all they could notice and remember about me. The idea of “perfectionism” had started to become my downfall. Every day, the enemy would put thoughts in my mind telling me, “You’re not pretty; you’re not good enough!” But God constantly reminded me in His word that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and that is when I started to notice my mindset change. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:14, NIV). These skincare products are not a quick, easy fix. You have to be patient with your skin and yourself. All in all, if you have the resources, I believe it is essential to take care of your skin since our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit. Still, you have to remind yourself that no matter what you see on social media, nobody has perfect skin, and true beauty lies from within.
